Desert driving can be immensely fun yet challenging and demanding on your vehicle. It is very important to avoid getting stuck as getting out will take some resources and maneuvering.
Tips to prevent getting stuck
Drive a 4-wheel-drive vehicle.
Lower your tyre pressures and re-check them after driving for a short while as pressure will increase with the heat.
Ensure you are in the right gear to maintain momentum; this is one of the main causes of getting stuck especially in a vehicle with manual transmission.
Wider wheels that redistribute weight are always a plus
What if you do get stuck?
If you get stuck first re-check the tyre pressures and even deflate a little more.
Don’t forget to bring:
Your shovel
Tow rope
Air compressor for re-inflating the tyres,
and carry enough drinks just in case you do stay out longer than planned
If you are going alone, ALWAYS let friends or family know when and where you're going as the desert can be unforgiving.
